Ross' theatre
performances have seen him play a multitude of different roles. From the Royal
Shakespeare Company to the Rocky Horrow Show, Ross has enjoyed a dazzling stage
career... |
Even at the tender age of just 14, Ross knew that
his future lay with the theatre. As a boy, he dreamt of one day treading the
boards in the footsteps of the luminary actors that had inspired him at such a
young age. Years later, he would realise that dream with his first engagement,
acting alongside Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall. Within one week of finishing
Drama School, Ross was offered a part in a block-busting theatre production by
legendary theatre director Terry Hands.

|
Following his successful debut with the
Chichester Festival Theatre, Ross was invited to lunch by Sir Derek Jacobi to
discuss the direction of his future career. Echoing the advice of his fellow
cast members including renowned actor Joss Ackland who he played alongside in
The Visit, Sir Derek convinced Ross that the best route
forward was for him to move to the world-famous
The Royal
Shakespeare Company. |
Unbeknown to Ross, The Royal Shakespeare Company
already had plans for him as leading theatre director Ian Judge had seen Ross
perform at the Chichester Festival Company. Recognising his considerable acting
potential, Judge offered Ross the opportunity to play opposite fellow RSC
actors Joseph Fiennes, Ray Fearon, Victoria Hamilton and Stephen Billington. In
his first appearance for the Royal Shakespreare Company, Ross played the
character of 'Ajax' in Troilus and Cressida - making him a
protagonist actor in the RSC at the age of just 21.
|
|
His success at the RSC continued when
director Stephen Pimlot chose Ross to play 'Charles The Wrestler' in As
You Like It opposite Joe Fiennes, John Woodvine, Nieve Cussack and
Richard Mcabe. He would later go on to play in Three Hours After
Marriage - a play that had not been seen on stage for over 300 years -
after director Richard Cottrol had seen Ross perform alongside Joss Akland at
Chichester. Ross has often commented that his best learning experiences came at
the RSC and he continues to be proud of his time at the RSC. |
People often ask Ross how a respected classical
actor would end up in the ultra-camp stage musical, The Rocky Horror
Show (soundtrack available on CD from
Amazon). Ross' answer is always the same... "It was the
funniest thing I had ever done - I had no intention to do more then 2 month in
the show but I fell in love with it". During his two years with the production,
he performed opposite Jason Donovan, Michael Cashman, Shane Fenton, Darren Day
and Laurie Brett. For a full chronological list of the theatre
